Launceston Folk Club

Concerts, folk night, and songwriters' open mic

Launceston Folk Club was launched in 2023 as a concert folk club bringing nationally and internationally acclaimed artists from the wider folk, acoustic, singer/songwriter, roots and blues circuit into Launceston and other parts of Cornwall.

Local, upcoming, musicians are selected to provide support to the main act giving an opportunity for them to play to an attentive, engaged audience, meet established artists, connect with our network, and support their developing careers.

Since 2023 we have hosted a wide variety of solo acts, duos, trios, and bands from small, intimate concerts to larger Town Hall and theatre concerts, as well as an annual day festival, in Launceston and other towns in Cornwall and Devon.

We have had the pleasure of having artists such as Fairport Convention, Kevin Dempsey, Christine Collister, Phil Beer, Anna Ryder & Nicky Cure, Martin Carthy, Chris While & Julie Matthews, Steve Tilston, Gigspanner, Jim Causley, Miranda Sykes, Richard Trethewey, Emily Slade, and many many other great musicians with us.

Launceston Folk Club provides a warm and welcoming environment for people to come together in community, meet new people, find meaning and purpose, follow their passions, and find a sense of belonging and upliftment, while enjoying some of the best music Cornwall and the wider UK have to offer.

We are very proud of what has developed at Launceston Folk Club, as well as what has grown out of it. The annual anniversary mini festival has become the Borderlands Festival of Folklore, Music, Arts and Culture and we have built many strong relationships with other organisations, enabling us to collaborate and broaden our reach and support in the community.

While Launceston Folk Club (LFC) sits as a project of ALF under the banner of Wreckers Live Music, it very much retains its own identity and we consider it the model and root of our other musical activities. LFC has taught us the power of adding music to community spaces to enhance wellbeing and support the local economy. Healthy communities beget healthy individuals and vice versa, and everybody benefits.

There is a very strong ‘folk’ community in Cornwall and beyond, and we aim to support musicians who consider themselves part of the ‘folk’ scene from those steeped in the traditional origins of the genre, to contemporary singer/songwriters and bands who occupy the scene.

Among the younger generations there is a burgeoning movement and it is very encouraging and exciting to see the talent that is coming through across generations.

We run monthly, informal, events where musicians can come and play in a friendly, relaxed setting and people can come along and listen and join in. Folk Night - 1st Weds of the month and Songwriters' Open Mic - 3rd Weds of the month. Both at Keep Audio Co., between 7pm and 10pm.
